The local scene continues at an amazing pace! CD's, concerts, benefits, visits from old friends… almost overwhelming, isn't it?
We conclude the Kansas City Saxophone series this issue, and I thank all of the contributors to the series, notably in this issue Carolyn Brewer, Andrew Zender , and Charlton Price. These are great additions to the series. Thanks also to each of the dozen musicians that were profiled in the series, you are a big part of the depth of great players in the area.
You'll see a new column from Stanton Kessler in this issue, called “Alternate Takes”. Stan will address areas from the musician's point of view in this column. I think you'll find his subjects thought provoking and informative.
Please take special note of the special benefit for Megan Birdsall on October 17 at Jardine's. Megan needs major oral surgery, and the Jazz Ambassadors' Musician Emergency Assistance Fund is sponsoring the benefit for Megan. This is another way that we can give back to those who are so much a part of our lives. See Carol Comer 's article on Megan in this issue, with more information about Megan's condition, the benefit, and other ways to contribute.
Until next time, enjoy!
