Editor's Corner
We moved to the Kansas City area in August, 1997 just in time for the beginning of the American Jazz Museum . It's become one of my favorite destinations, a place where the music always seems special. Over time it has been a place to make and meet friends, have some laughs, an occasional tear, and cherish being part of the extended Kansas City jazz family.
We all have our favorite memories. At the Blue Room, an intimate evening with a hero such as the late John Hicks, and then there was another with Kansas City's own NEA Jazz Master, Bob Brookmeyer, sharing a special evening with old friend Ed Dix with the PBT Trio. Or the night when Bobby Watson sat in with fellow Messenger David Schnitter. There was the night we were awed by Ken ny Garrett, and many killer nights with the Gerald Dunn and the Jazz Disciples. I'd have to include the Flat Five Reunions, the Westport Art Ensemble concerts, and my first night hearing Russ Long. And then there are the Jammin' at the Gem concerts.
I've said it before, and I'll never stop – thanks, AJM, for making Kansas City a better place, and helping to perpetuate this wonderful musical gift we call Jazz. Happy 10th Anniversary!
