The jazz scene has its own seasons, and we are now concluding the “Concert” season and moving into the “Outdoor” season, with its festivals and music outdoors and in abundance all over the area. We'll be featuring this in the June/July issue, but you'll be seeing the ads trickle in starting with this issue.
The summer is also the time when jazz camps flourish. Ed Fenner spent some time visiting the camps last summer, and in this issue gives a preview of the offerings for 2007.
There is a lot of bossa nova played in Kansas City , especially when the Sons of Brasil have the bandstand. Doug Auwarter is one of the catalysts in this long-running band that continues to sound fresh. Doug has immersed himself into the Brazilian culture, and shares this in this month's feature.
Enjoy, and remember to support your local jazz scene!
CORRECTION: The February/March issue incorrectly had Paul Smith playing cornet on his recent CD release Other Roads… It is a trumpet. Also not mentioned is that the CD is available from Paul's Web site www.paulsmithjazz.com.
