JAM: June/July 2005 Issue: Editor's Corner

Greetings, Jazz Ambassadors and jazz fans worldwide, and thanks for sharing JAM’s 19th anniversary issue with us!

For all jazz fans, there’s a lot to love about Kansas City in the next few months — from Chuck Haddix’s book signing to Rhythm & Ribs and all kinds of outdoor music, you won’t have to look hard to find a good time. And if you haven’t noticed by now that it’s almost time for the biggest deal of all for Jazz Ambassadors — the Jazz Lovers Pub Crawl® — it might be time to upgrade your lens prescription! We hope to see all of you out there for the Crawl and the many jazz events coming up this summer.

I am also pleased to introduce some changes to JAM in this issue. We’ve added a Member Profile (page 38,) which will introduce you to the KCJA one member at a time. (I hope you are as touched by our first profile as I was; it’s a wonderful reminder of how good jazz fans have it right here in KC!) We are also bringing back the President’s Corner, a letter from the KCJA president (page 11 this issue), which will keep you up-to-date on organization happenings. I know that you’re going to be wondering about Hampton’s Hot Licks, since it’s only the second time JAM has run without it since its inception, but don’t worry — it will be back! Our warmest, best wishes are with our friend Dean right now in a time of great loss.

Finally, I have one more invitation to extend. Did you know that JAM is written, edited, produced, and distributed primarily by volunteers? Well, it is... most of the work that goes into this magazine is done for the love of Kansas City and jazz. The magazine is poised for so much more going into its 20th year, and we need your help! If you’re interested in becoming a part - as a volunteer or otherwise - email us at info@jazzkc.org, and let us know what you can do to lend a hand. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
