I wanted to be a part of JAM before I even visited Kansas City. Contemplating a move from the Pacific Northwest with my fiancé last year, I started looking for magazines to work for in the area to continue my career in publishing. There was no shortage of options, but one stood out from the beginning, and it wasn't the one with the slickest paper or the most upscale distribution, or, to be blunt, even the one that would give me a full-time job. It was JAM, the one with the mission that spoke to my background and my passions. Music has always been one of my greatest loves, and growing up near Austin gave me plenty of opportunity to indulge that romance. Wherever I've lived in the meantime, I've enjoyed discovering the local music scene above all else, and now I've embarked on a new adventure—one that has put me right in the middle of one of the best music scenes on the planet. What better position could I have than to help promote a musical form that means so much to me, and so much to the history and flavor of this vibrant city? I am honored to be any part of the JAM tradition, and I feel lucky to be on a strong foundation built by former editors, even though it will be a challenge to fill their shoes. And since February is the month of love and romance, we've brought you a very special cover story. Kathy Fiest Vescovi has interviewed some of the premiere jazz couples on the scene, whose love has stood the tests of time, months on the road, and every other challenge that working musicians face. I hope it warms your heart in the coming months as you brave the cold to venture out to your favorite jazz clubs! Best wishes until next time. RETURN
