A Reminder
Let me begin by reiterating that the Kansas City Blues Society is a separate organization from the Kansas City Blues & Jazz Festival, Inc., which is the organization that has produced Kansas City's major Blues & Jazz festival since 1996.

We started the festival in 1991 and passed it on in '96 when the production of the event became too much work for our volunteer organization. We are also not affiliated with the group that was planning a Blues & Jazz festival to be held the third weekend in July this summer, but has now been postponed.

The Kansas City Blues Society is a not for profit, 501(c)3 tax-exempt corporation. Everyone who is involved with the KCBS donates their time and energy for our central cause of promoting and preserving our Blues heritage. During the month of June we used over one hundred volunteers at the Spirit Festival, as well as many volunteers at the Gladstone and Parkville festivals and the Kansas City, Kansas Street Blues Festival. Many people enjoy volunteering for these fun events. We sometimes have more volunteers than we can use, so we choose our members before the non-members to fill our volunteer needs. It might be a good incentive for some of you volunteers to become members!

Blue Sunday Concerts
Our Blue Sunday Concert Series has been running every Sunday since July 7. Each concert is held from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Washington Park located at Pershing and Main streets (north of Crown Center) in downtown Kansas City. These concerts are free to the public and will be held every Sunday until August 18. Our August talent includes Fresh Brew and Millage Gilbert's Downhome Blues Band (August 4), Fast Johnny Ricker and Rich Berry (August 11), and on August 18 we are proud to present the nationally renowned W.C. Clark. We would like to thank Kansas City Parks and Recreation, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, SECT, The Quarterage Hotel, and Hot 103 JAMZ radio for making this series happen. Come on down, bring your grill, and have some great Blue Sundays.

Acoustic Blues Showcase
Saturday, September 21 is the date for our 5th Annual Acoustic Blues Showcase. The talent lineup that we are planning for this year's event is very exciting. Lindsay Shannon, from BB's Lawnside Bar-B-Q is making the talent arrangements this year. The knowledge and expertise that Lindsay is providing is very much appreciated. We are happy to announce that Big Jack Johnson will be the headliner for this year's event. Johnson has just released a new CD that features him performing acoustic blues music. Paul Geremia has also been confirmed to appear. Blues Revue says this about Paul: "Not only is he a 'guitarist's guitarist,' one of the finest living practitioners of Blues fingerpicking, but he is a poet and social commentator in the best bardic tradition." We will be announcing additional talent appearing at the Acoustic Blues Showcase over the upcoming weeks.

Our Survey
We have posted a survey on our web site at http://www.kcbluessociety.com for people to give us their opinions about our organization. Non-members, as well as members are asked to rate the importance of some of our existing programs along with some new ideas that we are considering. Please go to our web site and hit the survey link. Your feedback
is very important to us!
