It's That Time of Year!
This issue of JAM is devoted to one of life's most delicious pursuits: the summer jazz festival season in Kansas City. From the smaller to mid-sized events (Lee's Summit, Parkville, Corporate Woods, 18th & Vine Heritage Jazz Festival) to the larger extravaganzas (Blues & Jazz Festival, KC Spirit Festival and Kansas City International Jazz Festival), there is a summer's worth of great jazz in store for everyone. And, of course, there's the 16th Annual Jazz Lover's Pub Crawl on June 26 -- not a festival per se, but still one of the season's best (and biggest) jazz parties. (Did I mention that the Pub Crawl is brought to you by the Kansas City Jazz Ambassadors?!)

The summer jazz festival season is also the perfect time to shake off the winter cobwebs, get outside, catch some rays, and partake of your favorite foods and refreshments, all while listening to great music. For those of us who love and follow jazz, we never seem to tire of trying to attend each and every one of these events. And for those who are just discovering jazz, what better way to learn about the music so closely associated with Kansas City?

While you're planning your jazz festival summer, you also might consider volunteering for the Jazz Lovers Pub Crawl and/or the Jazz Ambassador tents at the Blues & Jazz Festival, the Spirit Festival and the International Jazz Festival. We promise that the transition from winter easy chair to the great outdoors will be a painless one. Especially if you enjoy 1) free t-shirts, 2) free passes to the events, and 3) meeting new and interesting people. If these fringe benefits sound appealing, we'd love to have you join us. Call (816) 333-0337 if you'd like to volunteer.

Please attend as many of these jazz events as you can this year. Strong community support will ensure that each will continue to prosper and that we will have many more summers of great jazz in Kansas City.
