A Warm Heart
How gratifying to see an entire issue devoted to jazz broadcasting (JAM, April/May '97). You make clear the vital role not-for-profit stations play in promoting jazz on the airwaves. As an unpaid volunteer broadcaster, it certainly warms my heart to see such recognition.

Thanks to JAM, each Monday morning, when the alarm sounds at 4:00 a.m. and I trip over the cats, start the coffee injections, grab my headphones and recordings, and make that pre-dawn drive to the studio, I will feel the Jazz Ambassadors' appreciation and pride in our mission: to celebrate our rich musical culture.

Sincerely yours,
ValRae Wolf

Enclosed please find our membership contributions and my business card and bio. Please be so kind as to mail our KCJA membership cards to our address in Kansas City, but, as we will be leaving for Russia (soon), please send JAM magazines, newsletters and other info to my postal address in Russia.

Stay cool and keep swinging!

Yours very truly,

Donations Appreciated
The North County Interfaith Council (NCIC) is a non-profit organization which supplies services to those who are unable to function and cannot yet sustain themselves. The services include job placement, shelter programs, housing, food, shelter and counseling.

June 14, 1997 is the date for our 2nd Annual Jazz & Swing Festival. Part of our fund raiser will be a silent and live auction. We would appreciate any donated memorabilia for our auction. Signed sheet music, CDs, or stage clothing make wonderful auction items.

Articles for the auction can be sent to:

California Dreamin'
I would like to thank you for the great job of listing the jazz events in Kansas City -- in particular, the Jazz Pub Crawl and the Corporate Woods Jazz Festival. Since I live in California, JAM is my "life-line" to Kansas City jazz. I will be attending both events.

With reference to Mike Metheny's "Coda" article ("Talking Up, Dumbing Down," April/May '97), I travel 1600 miles to hear jazz (in Kansas City). (And) I do complain when some jerk in the audience disrupts the performance. Unfortunately, management doesn't do enough to insure the enjoyment of the less vocal patrons.

Management should warn once, then eject the trouble makers if the warning does no good.
